Wonder Valley Homestead Cabin Festival

Local artist Chris Carraher's dream of a arts festival that focused on the history and legacy of the Homestead Act of 1938 that spawned the cabins that dot the desert landscape came to reality in a big way. Wonder Valley Arts presented the Wonder Valley Homestead Cabin Festival in February and March 2008. The goal was to discover the history, celebrate the culture and strengthen the community of Wonder Valley through the arts. The Wonder Valley Homestead Cabin Festival was organized by the Homestead Cabinet (Andy Woods along with festival featured artists Chris Carraher and Scott Monteith.) It included happenings at the Fi-Lox-See Gallery and the Palms Restaurant in Wonder Valley. In association with the festival artists Diane Best and Mary Austin-Klein created a show that was presented at Trader Jeff's in Twentynine Palms called the Shack Appreciation Show 'SAS'. Wonder Valley artist Helena Bongarts' ongoing weekly cabin light show was also featured in the events for the festival. MBCAC's Spring Gathering at Fi-Lox-See. When we were asked to host this event we thought it would be great to share with you some of the artists and musicians of Wonder Valley. We are excited to have THE SIBLEYS rockin' the rooftop stage on Saturday. THE HAFLER DUO( www.TheHaflerDuo.com ) will open the show and play songs from their debut album HduO and introduce several performers from their Open Mic Night at The Palms Restaurant (Thursdays 8pm) including Bryan Goodlander, Brandon Brohamer, Elise Sky, Caleb Winn, Gary Sanner & more. We encourage you to bring your own instrument for an improv jam session into the sunset.

Fi-Lox-See's art gallery will feature several local artists including Chris Carraher, Perry Hoffman, Jane Maru, Lori Greene, Mikal Winn, David Greene, Scott Monteith & Andy Woods.

Of course, there are many more great artists and musicians in and around Wonder Valley. We hope you will enjoy the sampling that we have put together.

Dirty Delicacies An eclectic fusion of intricate and bold jewelry designs, sparkling skeletals, glittering crowns & other curiosities…

Jewelry artist Mikal Winn grew up on a dairy farm in rural Ohio. Since 2003, Mikal designs and crafts his dynamic, organic jewelry at his Wonder Valley studio. Winn’s jewelry has been worn by celebrities, featured in magazines, and sold in boutiques and galleries in the U.S., England, Spain, Greece, and Japan.

A more recent transplant to Wonder Valley is fine art jewelry artist Lori Greene. Lori exclaims: "I fell into jewelry-making quite by accident. In 1989, while building a battery component to a wheelchair system, a pool of solder that had formed at my bench. There I saw a crescent moon and stars, and my journey had begun. Inspired, I soon was experimenting in metals and jewelry design.”

Join us for a dazzling artist reception on March 2, Friday, 6-9:00pm at the Creative Center, located at 6847 Adobe Road, 29 Palms. Refreshments will be provided.

Join The Hafler Duo at The Palms Restaurant. In it's third week this show is quickly becoming the hot spot to be at in Wonder Valley on Thursday nights. Enjoy drinks from the bar or good food from the kitchen as the Hafler brothers entertain you with classic tunes and new favorites the Duo have written.

Stay around and enjoy open mic night starting at 9pm. Open mic is an opportunity to all that want to participate. Sing a song, read a poem, play an instrument or tell a story. Odd and rare talents encouraged too. You never know what may happen during open mic on Thursdays and you are welcome to join in!
